Default Power Surges

I was reading about a possible power surge damaging the carts controller in another thread. This is my first year with a cart at our campgrounds and I do know that they have a ton of power outages because of severe weather. My plan was to put my cart on the charger when I leave so it's charged for the next time I'm there. My question is, what can I do to eliminate any power surge damaging my cart while I'm gone? Do I just use a surge protected power strip or is there something else out there?

Let's bumped this up because that was my next question I still learning my self and I owned my cart for five years and have not had any problems except two on board computer Pretty pricey they both went out after a power surge or if anyone differs it must be a freak of nature because I know for a fact power surge caused both of mine so will a surge protector help with this problem. It didnt hurt charger it went to obc and cooked it in almost same spot u could see brown on the outside of computer shell thanks in advance
