DS in accident
Hello, my neighbor has a mid 90's DS that had a front end collision. The 2 flat metal braces that join the front of the frame to the dash support both cracked and the steering column universal joints pulled out of the splines. My question is: Can the steering column be moved to allow the joints to mate up again, or does it need to have the dash bent down and re-welded first.
There is a 1/2in gap between the two universal joints now, and I was hoping to get the cart at least mobile enough to drive it up onto my truck to take it to a shop to get the welds fixed. (the braces only have a 1/16in gap and are broken at the lower frame.) Thanks in advance. My neighbor also thanks you as this is her only way to get down to the beach with her and her husband's disabilites. |

Re: DS in accident
Thanks, looks like I'll have to get the lower u-joint shaft lengthened about an inch. There just wasn't enough slack in the splines to extend far enough to be safe to drive. The dash is pushed back about an inch on the drivers side and almost two inches on the passenger side. The problem is that their family is on a fixed income and this is just a repair that they can't afford. I just wanted to get it drivable for a while until they can afford to get the dash frame supports welded. At least the main frame is straight and the wheels are still in the right place!
