I guess I'm out of ideas. All the clutches from 76-88 are generally the same.

My clutch was similar. After you get the set screw out, the helix or "cover" will unscrew. Although mine was a pain from being on so long, but it did come off eventually. Just be careful with how much force you use because cast aluminum like that will break very easily. Offhand I can't recall if the threads are right or left hand. After you get it apart, polish the ramps on the helix til they're nice and smooth, measure the diameter of the protrusion inside the secondary and you should be able to find washers from heavy duty suspension U-bolts to use as shims. If you can't find a spring, you may be able to stretch your old one out, although its not a permanent fix. I have seen other posts on here about how to shim the driven clutch too. Hope this helps!

No wonder a gear puller wasn't working.
I gave up a bought a new one.

Lol... sorry that my advice was a little too late. You can still use the same advice to shim your new clutch though. Guessing that it will come apart alot easier too. Iam looking for a drive clutch for my 83 Marathon gasser if you happen to know of anybody looking to get rid of one?
