Default 64v on 48v motor

so i have a friend that claims to have had a 36v motor and bought the wrong batteries so its 48v on a 36v engine and it is rediculously fast now but assuming they are telling the truth could i do the same thing with my 48v motor and just make room for 2 more batteries and have it be faster and more powerful?

There are several here that are running 36V motors in our 48V carts, I am sure others will chime in, interesting… if the entire cart is set up for 36V and he is running 48V (incorrect batteries) that something hasn’t melted in his electrical system. A for running 64V for a 48V system, which I will pass to scottyb and tahoe…

I ran my 36v system on 48v without any problems for well over a year. As for 64v in a 48v system, make sure your controller can handle 64v, the motor will be able to though.

He must have a controller capable of handling 48 volts but yes, the motors will handle the extra voltage. As for 64 volts you need to make sure your controller and solenoid can handle it.

I currently have two of my carts running 48v thru 36v motors. One was a 36v cart upgraded to 48v and the other a 48v cart with a 36v motor change out, They both do remarkably well.

Gorno is right just go 72v. You can't buy a 64v control or charger.

The 36v carts melt on 48v. Some sooner and some later. I took an ezgo in once that had 8v batteries in it, they were almost dead so we figured bad batts weren't giving too much extra juice?

Easier yet for your 48v cart .... just buy a used 36v motor and swap it out with your stock motor to gain about 25-35% more torque and speed. I put this theory forth about 2 yrs ago and about half a dozen members have done it, each reported good gains and none came back with problems... as far as who all is running 36v motors on 48v? I do about 100 36 to 48v conversions a year. Visit cartsunlimited.net or just call.

Ok so last year I picked up a used club car for parts. It was free with a broken frame. It's a 48 volt DS. Two days ago I just picked up a 36 volt DS with resistor cart. Should I just take all the electronics from the 48 volt and stuff it all in the resistor cart with the stock 36 volt motor? I might have to buy new batteries any ways and I was thinking of one of those $99 sams club charger.
