How can I test the Speed Controller in both EZ Go & Club Car to see if they are the reason why the carts are not running.

Re: Speed Controller
I don't know much of anything about the other brands, but for EZGO electric carts in general:
1. Check battery pack voltage. Nothing works without it. 2. Listen for the solenoid to click If it doesn't click, troubleshoot solenoid activation circuit. If it does, troubleshoot high current circuit. To troubleshoot high current circuit, connect DVM between B- and M- terminals on controller. (M- is labeled A1 on PDS controllers) Should get full battery pack voltage when solenoid first clicks. If you don't, trace high current circuit back to Battery pack's main positive terminal. If you do, press throttle pedal slowly to floor. Voltage should smoothly reduce to near zero. If it does, and the motor isn't spinning, troubleshoot the motor. If it doesn't, check the throttle input to controller. If throttle input is telling the controller to pass current and it isn't, the controller is bad. |

Re: Speed Controller
A quick overview of the solenoid is :
The solenoid is a HD on/off switch or Contactor the connection is made /broken between the 2 large terminals. The 2 small terminals are the activation circuit. typically one terminal will have a constant negative connection to the pack. When Positive power is applied to the second small terminal the contact is drawn up against the spring to make contact. When power from either side of the activation circuit is removed then contact is released and the spring pushes it away interrupting the circuit ...It doesn't matter which small terminal is neg or pos on the activation circuit so long as you have one of each present it will activate a good solenoid.... testing can be done with smallish jumper wires from the 36v battery pack mains |
