Heavy Duty HD Spring Install
I am writing this because I could only find write-ups on other carts getting the HD springs installed. I am going to list the steps but if anyone has questions let me know..it was super easy!
1. Ordered 4 leaf HD springs made in America. They came with new bushings and spacers. I ended up keeping all 4 springs as I wanted an extra stiff ride and a little height. 2. I put it in tow mode, no reason other than I always do this when working on the cart. I jacked up the back where the hitch would be mounted. I secured a jack stand under the frame on each side. I also removed both back wheels to give myself room and take weight of the axle. I also mad sure to chock the front tires. SAFETY FIRST 3. Do one side at a time and you will not have to worry about the axle falling. 4. I started by spraying all bolts with WD-40 5. I then used a 10mm & 13mm socket on the bolt and nut holding the front end of the leaf in. I have heard you have to cut these but mine came out with little more than a good turn of the wrench. 6. I then did the same on the rear except I had to use and adjustable wrench instead of the 13mm because the bolt was too long 7. Next I undid the U bolts and shock nuts, 2 different sizes but I had to use deep sockets on them. Keep the hardware as you reuse it. No need for longer U bolts or extending the shock bolt. 8. After sliding the new spring between the axle and mounting plate I installed the front spacer, bushings, and bolt to give me a guide. 9. I then put the guide bolts in the holes that the old ones came out of. (on mounting plates) 10. I then put in the rear bushings, spacer, and bolt to secure the spring 11. A trick I figured out is using a small bottle jack to push the bottome mounting plate up and expose the u bolt and shock threads so I could start the nuts. Once started I took out the jack and tightened the nuts onto the u bolt and shock. 12. Repeat on other side. 12. Let down jack and enjoy. |

Re: Heavy Duty HD Spring Install
Just did the HD springs from CPP on my DS gasser yesterday.
The bolts for the shackles on mine were 14mm and the U bolts were 16mm but other than that it seemed just about the same as your experience. |

Re: Heavy Duty HD Spring Install
I got the springs through one of our site sponsors, Golf Cart King. The package was nice as it come with the bushings. With two people in the back along with the extra battery the ride isnt bad at all. Feels a heck of a lot better then the saggy stock springs did.

Re: Heavy Duty HD Spring Install
1970Buick: Your photo's and description appear as though the HD springs sit UNDER the axle. The EZGO video has the springs OVER the axle.
I've ordered a set for my 2007 Precedent Gas, and since I haven't seen the instructions, am I correct regarding the appearance of your installation (UNDER the axle)? |

Non-lifted CC ~ the leaf is under the axle.
Lifted CC ~ the leaf is over the axle. |
