I'm going to order a new 48 to 12 converter. I'm still curious on how this one worked though.

Also, how do you wire the converter so that it will only work with the key on?

Thanks again

If you are going to buy a 48-12 converter buy one that is key activated,a converter/reducer that is live all the time will draw on the pack 12v use or not, cart use or not.If you have a live converter you can wire it with a key operated relay.Scotty B at Carts unlimited has what you need with pictures.

O.K. I got a cheapo reducer for starters. It's a 4 wire jobby with 48+, 48-, 12+, and 12-. I still want to run this through the key switch. I dont know if the small #18 blue wire from the key can handle this draw. I've read I can use a small relay. Any more help would be appreciated.

Thanks again

On my first cart, I wired the 48v positive to the key switch and the 48v negative to main negative on pack. I had two front headlights and never had a problem.

Can you post a link to the reducer you got? Is it a small square unit?

I am surprised at what Jake did without a problem, you have to break the 48v source either + or - to power down the converter, I tried toggle switch burned it up lotta amps. The best thing I found is a 48v charger relay breaking the 48v + ,operated by the key, as I said before Scotty B ,Forum vendor(Carts Unlimited ),has it all..Dave

Yeah, like I said it worked for all three years I owned the cart. It was only a 10 amp model, not sure how many amps the key switch is rated for...
