Preformance upgrade 2008+ Precedent

I'm looking to upgrade my 2008+ precedent, I could use more torque. Stock it looks to have 48V 4 battery, 6 gauge cables. I was thinking of upgrading in stages, first to 2 gauge wires, then the controller and motor. I'm assuming that other parts should also be upgraded also.
So In my first upgrade I'm thinking cables and If I need to upgrade the solenoid or switch I'd do this now. Then later I'd like to think motor and OBC.

So is this a good plan, been trying to read up in forums but it is thick so I apologize up front, links of good reading appreciated along with input. Still wondering about the benefits of a 6 8v battery system over 4 12's other than maybe a longer run time, is that big of a difference?

Oh forgot to mention, I'm using the cart primary for my camp, gravel roads and very steep hills, usually only two people but at times maybe 4.

You can upgrade the motor and controller to improve performance...
You can get with Scottyb and tell him what you want and he will tell you what you would need...
