Spark on negative terminal when hooking it up after controller install
Installed a navitas 3.0 controller in my 97 txt dcs. All was followed to the letter. As soon as I touched the negative to the battery, pow, a big spark. I don't want to blow my controller up. Is this normal?

Re: Spark on negative terminal when hooking it up after controller install
It is normal to get a spake on the last battery connection whenever the controller has been disconnected from the battery pack for more than a few minutes and a new controller hasn't been connected to a battery pack in days.
Attached is a picture of the power board in a stock DCS controller (Curtis 1206SX) and it shows a dozen 1,000µF filter capacitors (1.2F total) that are connected between the controller's B- and B+ terminals. Not sure how much capacitance the filters in the Navitas has, but it will be significant enough to cause a spark when the last thick cable is connected. |

It popped again, but I held it on and it stopped sparking. No heat after several minutes. Sad part is, the solenoid is not clicking and I have no movement when I push the pedal. Wonder what I did wrong?

I'm not very familiar with Navitas, but here's a troubleshooting guide I found a while back.
Also Navitas tech support is supposed to be pretty good. |

Re: Spark on negative terminal when hooking it up after controller install
I put in a Navitas and didn’t have any sparking, and I’ve never had sparking on my cart, but when I needed to replace my solenoid when I had the Curtis, my cart was under warranty and the guy was surprised it didn’t spark when hooking up the negative, he said he usually sees a little spark. That said it’s not a powerful blast just a little spark.

I hooked it up and had enough spark to singe the post top a bit. Lights up fine, just it doesn't go. Doubt it's the controller. I don't think my pedal is hooked up correct. Instructions werent clear on that.

Yeah I meant a light little spark not a huge arc that would singe anything. Good luck.
