rear suspension
hello!
I am finally making progress on the rebuild of my club car ds. As it is a 98 i expected to run into things. Here is my first head scratcher. The drivers side rear leaf spring seems to not run parallel to the frame. the connection at the rear bushing / shackle looks like it is pushing inboard roughly 3/8 of an inch. When comparing to the passenger side I can see by the time the leaf is at the axle the spring has already shifted in. Any thoughts on root cause and will this even matter much? I have new bushings and new leaf springs. The only damage I see is shock on that side has a bent shaft(nothing severe but obviously bent). The welded front spring leaf connection looks good and the pocket width is good. No visible frame damage, The axle looks to be straight. The leaf spring bolts are not hard to push in. I have left the shock disconnected and it makes no difference. I flipped the spring 180 and no difference. I'm thinking the front leaf spring shackle is the culprit but I cant see what. Appreciate any feedback. I have the lift under the frame and the cart stripped down. Time for another power wash to get more dirt / grime off the frame, hopefully I see something today chers |

Re: rear suspension
took a fresh look today, it seems the original brackets welded on the axle are keeping the new U bolts moving over any further. This is kicking the leaf spring over. I will run for a bit this way before I decide if I should cut of the old brackets

Re: rear suspension
I’ve got my 97’ tore down pretty good right now. So for giggles I just took a straight edge to the inside of the front and rear brackets. It appears my springs are also not parallel to the frame. I would just assume this is by design for clearance of the brakes and or tires

Re: rear suspension
The back end of the frame is not parallel. The rails do /---\ this sort of thing.
The older carts had offset shackles to make up the difference. The newer carts do not. Doesn't make a difference to the cart. Loosen the u-bolts on the axle, get the springs lined up and bolted to the shackles and then re-tighten the u-bolts. |
