Dumb Newbie Question - Do I have a 295cc or 350cc?
I picked up a project cart yesterday. After some research, I have been able to figure out that it is a 2001 EZGO TXT / STANDARD. Serial # 1435242, and there is L301 above the serial #.
The cart will not start. It turns over, but it does not seem to be getting a spark. The fuel pump is working, and the spark plug is sparking...from lurking around on the boards, I have found various things to try, but the spark plug gaps are different for the 295 vs the 350. According to manual: 295cc .035” (0.9 mm) Gap 350cc .028” - .032” (.70 - .80 mm) Gap I have mine set at .029, but I am wondering if I might have a 295cc, which would mean I need .035...seems like a big difference. If anyone can tell me how I can tell the difference between the two engine types, please let me know. I replaced the old spark plugs and they both seemed to be gapped over .035....Im sooooo confused... |

The spark plug gap is not the reason. If at all, performance is affected with different spark plug gaps from stated, but not starting. Check wiring connections, ignitor, ignition coil and pulsar. Could also be a fuel issue.

To find out if it is a 290 or 350 cc engine, look at the base. The engine displacement size is embossed there. I think it is on the front/carb side.

If you have spark and fuel I would do a compression test.

Re: Dumb Newbie Question - Do I have a 295cc or 350cc?
Thanks for the replies...I found the engine badge, it was under about half an inch of dirt. I have a 295cc. I also think I have narrowed down the issue to a bad/dirty carb. I was able to get cart to start and run for a second or two with some starter fluid. So, I have taken the carb out and cleaned as best as I could. It seems the main jet and a secondary jet are not going to cooperate and come out. The screw holding them in is frozen. I had the same issue on a Kawasaki mule where the main jet was frozen in the carb. I ended up having to get a new carb.
I cleaned out this carb and figured I would give it a shot before ordering a new one. Price is not bad for a new one (around 100 bucks)....unless someone knows of a cheaper place??? Im charging up battery and will report on my issue so that it might help someone in the future. Thanks. |
