Default Ausco brake fitment

I know that this is the EZGO Gas section but give me a bit.

I have a 1994 Jacobson 810 cart. This cart is driven by a Marathon cradle with a four stroke robin engine.

This cart was having brake issues so after having to cut the drums into quarters to get them off of the splined axles I found a few nuts a bolts that didn't need to be replaced, other than that every thing had to go.
Now I wanted Ausco brakes and why not, if you have to replace almost every component get good ones. But how to determine what you need. That is what I'm going to share.

The following carts use a 3/4 inch by 24 spline axle shaft.

•Electric Terrain 250: 2012-current
•Electric Marathon: 1989-1994
•Electric Medalist: 1994-1999
•Electric MPT 800: 2004-2012
•Electric MPT 1000: 2011-2012
•Electric ST Sport II: 2011-2012
•Electric TXT: 1996-current
•Electric Workhorse 1000: 1998-2002
•Electric Workhorse 800: 1998-2002
•Gas Marathon 2 cycle: 1992-1993
•Gas TXT Refresh: 2014-current

These carts use a 15/16 by 30 spline axle shaft.

•Electric Express L6/L4/S6/S4: 2012-current
•Electric Medalist: 1994-1997
•Electric MPT 1000: 2004-2012
•Electric MPT 80:0 2011-2012
•Electric Shuttle 4/6: 2005-2001
•Electric ST Express: 2005-2011
•Electric ST 400: 2010-2012
•Gas Marathon 4 cycle: 1992-1994
•Gas Medalist: 1996-1999
•Gas MPT 1200: 2004-2008
•Gas MPT 800: 2004-2009
•Gas ST Sport II: 2006-2009
•Gas RXV: 2009-current
•Gas Shuttle 4/6: 1995-2008
•Gas ST Express: 1995-2008
•Gas TXT: 1996-2009
•Gas Workhorse 1200: 1996-2003
•Gas Workhorse 800: 1998-2001

Now the marathon electric and 2 cycle gas uses the 3/4 by 24 spline axles while the 4 stoke gas uses the 15/16 by 30 spline axles. the confusion come into play because the marathon was coming in electric, 2 stoke and four stroke near the end of its production run in 1994 when the Medalist took over.

Now I did not look into newer carts but they are easier to get parts for anyway.

Default Re: Ausco brake fitment

I used the Ezgo Gas AU1998 Kit from Carts unlimited.
I've got the brakes in stalled and they work fine on my Jacobson (1993 4-stroke Marathon), but there was two issues.

First the rear cable mount on each side is welded onto the axle and interferes with the mounting of the caliper. Not a issue for me as a cut off wheel is very handy in my hand. I believe it could be cut off with a hacksaw, but I'm lazy so I did not try.

The second issue was in order to line up the disk between the pads, I had move the mounting bracket outward. The disk was rubbing on the outside pad so hard you could not spin the rotor. I purchased eight longer 8mm bolts and sixteen 8mm fender washers. I placed two fender washers between the flange and the mounting bracket on each bolt and tightened everything down. This put the rotor between the two pads. After that everything went according to the instructions.

This difference is probably do to the Marathon axle and the Medalist axle not being the same size. However, I'm a thinking that this kit would work well for 1992 through 1994 4-stroke Marathon as long as the individual was mechanically inclined.
