1986 marathon fast clicking
i have a 1986 gas marathon that sat during the winter. it fired right up this spring when i went to pull out of my garage. i put it in reverse, ran fine, then went to go forward again and all it does is make a fast clicking sound when you press the pedal. battery is 12.7 volts, changed the solenoid, same thing, any ideas on next fix? thanks!

Re: 1986 marathon fast clicking
The solenoid clicks because it is losing its power source.

Re: 1986 marathon fast clicking
The microswitches click, and the voltage regulator has points that could click. I have never heard them though.
A fast click still says solenoid is not holding closed, and it doesn't turn over. Put a long screwdriver on the solenoid, and put your ear on the handle. You should hear it. |

Re: 1986 marathon fast clicking
If I'm reading this correctly, it started once after sitting for the winter, backed up, and then wouldn't start again.
Battery reads 12.7 volts while sitting. What does it read while stepping on the pedal? This link is to a load test chart. http://www.carquestprofessionals.com...atteryTemp.gif If your voltage drops to 9.6 volts while trying to crank it, your battery didn't survive the winter. |

Re: 1986 marathon fast clicking
i will have to check that, it ran twice i didn't think that the battery would be toast but could be because i had just removed it from the trickle charger that was on over night before it started
