90psi Compression Enough?
I checked compression on my new cart last week. One cylinder showed about 155psi, and the other only about 90 or 95psi. I thought 155pis seemed pretty high, but is there such thing as "too much compression". On the other hand, I thought 95psi was too low. I'm thinking closer to 120psi is what I want. Am I close?
I'll dig into it and check the valve seats on the bad cylinder one of these nights. Any other suggestions out there? |

Re: 90psi Compression Enough?
155 isn't and issue 90 is on the other hand have you set valve lash?

Re: 90psi Compression Enough?
I have set valve lash, can't remember if it was before or after checking compression. I'm thinking it was after, so I better recheck compression first. When I did the valves I couldn't get my feeler gauge in a single one of them, so I wouldn't be surprised if fixing that didn't fix my compression.

Re: 90psi Compression Enough?
That could be when they are tight valves won't seal properly

Re: 90psi Compression Enough?
Setting the valves is easy and free. Bad compression once you get them set correctly will be a little more costly.

Re: 90psi Compression Enough?
I've got 160+ in each cylinder. I must have checked it before setting valve lash. Thanks for the help fellas!

Re: 90psi Compression Enough?
there is never too much compression however if you get around the 260 psi range it makes turning a motor over a little complicated and if you get higher than that they don't like regular gas

Re: 90psi Compression Enough?
Got it. Hopefully I don't have to worry about hitting 260psi... Thanks for the info!
