Anyone here rebuild or know of someone who can rebuild a G1 crank assembly?Doesn't seem like many small engine shops left capable of doing this kind of work. Leads appreciated

I've done it a few times. I don't know where you're from, but if the engine and parts were here I could get it done. Are you talking about rebuilding the bottom end, like installing a new crank in the case?

I think he's referring to changing out the lower connecting rod bearing along with all other hardware. I think the crank pin needs pressed out.

Oh I just got a new crank when I did mine. I understand, that crank actually comes apart in two pieces. Don Plowman can do that.

The parts are the key.

What I did with one of my old Columbias was that I procured the parts and took them and a service manual to a local Napa that has a motor shop in it. They put everything together for me. As they had all of the right tools (presses, dies and such) it took them all of an hour and cost a whopping $70. Again, this was not the total cost of the job but just the labor. The parts were significantly more than that.

I'll shoot you a PM. I have the connecting rod, pin, bearing and the side washers all NOS. Id rather send it to a pro than find out a local shop doesn't know what they are doing.

I should have read this a little better, the excitement that someone still rebuilds them I went blind. That fact that you make the parts to rebuild them is awesome. I think there was 2-3 people in the last month or so on the G1 G3 facebook page that were looking for serviceable cranks so from here on out I know to tell them to go to you. Do you have any of the J17 intake manifolds left? there was 2 people that posted yesterday looking for them.
