Rearend fluid change out ??
Looking for some recommendations for putting Syn oil in the rearend, not only EZGO but other manufactures also .. Ive done some reading and some suggest that by changing out the conventional oil to Syn you can actually gain some speed because of less drag . What weight oil are we using ????

I'm using Lucas 85W-140 conventional gear oil, but will probably switch to synthetic 75W-140 or 75W-90 the next time I change it.

Re: Rearend fluid change out ??
The main benefit of the heavier weight oils is reduced gear noise. The golf cart axle has no provisions for adjusting gear lash like a car axle does. All you do is assemble it, then "it is what it is". A thinner oil could give adequate protection, with increased efficiency due to reduced drag. The main drawback is increased gear noise. You will notice the difference in noise, but probably will see no significant increase in top speed. If you are considering this as a potential "speed upgrade", i think you will be dissapointed. You might see a slight increase in range (like ~5%).

Re: Rearend fluid change out ??
How often should this be changed? I am pretty sure the previous owner never did it....it must be time for me.

FWIW: Gear oil and Motor oil are rated on different scales. SAE 85W Gear oil has about the same viscosity as SAE 30 Motor Oil. |
