Motor Upgrade (Speed)
Hello,
I am almost done with my rebuild....worked on the wiring tonight. So it now has the 500 amp controller and all 2 ga wire. My question is should I also do the motor while I have the body off? I was getting 19 MPH with the current motor and old controller, so it should go up some. If yes - has any one gone with a plumquick motor? Like the bandit from their site? If not that one...other suggestions? Jonathan |

Re: Motor Upgrade (Speed)
When you identify the cart you are asking questions about, you are more likely to get an answer, but you only have a few post, so I was able to find out what your cart is.
2005 PDS with a XCT500 controller, a 36V battery pack and stock height (18") tires. That combination will do about 24 MPH with the stock PDS motor. I R&R'd my motor from the top with the body on. What motor to get depends on what the cart will be used for, what height tires will be installed and the terrain it will be driven on. Talk to scottyb about motors. |

Re: Motor Upgrade (Speed)
One Sepex cart customer told me PQ said to disable the regen braking and the turbo feature on the XCT to run the bandit. Since the XCT turbo works throughout the throttle range, I thought that's a lot of feature to give up for what is basically a stock motor.

Re: Motor Upgrade (Speed)
Okay...this helps.
Here are the basics on my cart: 2005 EZGO TXT/PDS 36 Volt Alltrax XCT500 (new from Scottyb) 400 Amp Solenoid (new from Scottyb) stock tires & motor With the old/dead stock controller I was getting around 19 MPH, but it is being replaced with the Alltrax. I am also upgrading all the wires - between the batteries is 4 GA and to the motor will be 2 GA. Scottyb - I agree, I do not want to disable stuff to go faster. |

Re: Motor Upgrade (Speed)
JohnnieB - would you recommend to upgrade the tires to 10 or 12 inch before i do the motor? I am not sure that i want to go bigger because I have not done a lift.

Re: Motor Upgrade (Speed)
Forgot two other items:
- I live in Fl, so it is flat and the cart will never go off road - We do have the seats on the back |

Re: Motor Upgrade (Speed)
10 or 12 inch is not a tire size, that is a rim size and rims hold a number of tire sizes. You can put a 20 - 20.5" tall tire on the cart without a lift.
You should be getting 24 mph from the stock motor now on 18" tires with the XCT control. |

Re: Motor Upgrade (Speed)
Okay - sounds like I should do nothing yet....try to find a good deal on some 21.5 or 22 tires and then when the motor goes out or in the future pick up a new high speed not a rebuilt or something.
Wife will be happy with this direction |

Re: Motor Upgrade (Speed)
Planning to use the cart with big tires & wheels & "wait for the motor to go out" is a terrible idea, when a Sepex motor dies, it kills the controller about 75% of the time too. So, how much do you like that new controller?
