Looking at the pic, it looks like a heavy duty solenoid. Don't think that's stock. (I could be wrong) If that's a stock controller, it's not sealed. They look like it, but you can have them repaired. (Or diy) Is the body in good shape?

It has got normal wear for a golf cart. but for a 1991 it seem to be in great shape IMO. My neighbor is about 90 and is giving it to me for helping him out through the years repairing things including this cart. So it was the first time I worked on it and ever used one for that matter. I am pretty impressed as to how well it rides especially in this mountain area I live in. I wanted to see how far it would go so I took it out the other day and put about 12.5 miles on it and I am about 330 LBS and when I let the batteries settle for about 10 minutes it was still at 37.7 volts! According to US and Trojan it was still between 80 and 90% charge. OF course unlike my and maybe your fathers said to us when we complained about something he would say "I had to walk 5 miles to school and it was uphill both ways".. I know that wasn't true so climbing the hill at about 8 mph and coming down at about 20 or more does make more sense! Since it was the first time I had rode one I wanders if there was a problem with is slowing down on the hills but I guess that is the nature of these electric carts. It seems to go between 12 to 14 mph on the flats but to be honest I don't have much more than a block or two of actual flat terrain here it is up and down almost all the time.

How can I tell if it is stock or HD? I never thought about checking numbers on anything other than the serial#? Maybe I should see what is really in this cart?

He can just tell by how it looks and maybe it's physically bigger.

Those speeds are about right. 8mpg up a steep hill and 13/14 on the flats is the top speed of a series cart. Be carefull going down to fast you can over Rev the motor and tear it up

I had a '91 also for a number of years. Your performance numbers, ~14 on the flats and ~8 up the hills is about the same as mine would run. My solenoid looked like yours and was stock.

Your cart looks good for its age. A keeper I think.

Wow did not know that! I think the top speed was 26 mph using a smart app which is how I got the mileage and speed so I am not sure how accurate they are but using the gps signal I would assume they are close. So what is the recommended coast speed? one hill here is pretty **** steep and that is where I gained that 20 to 26 mph

I really like those lights on yours! I won't complain about the ones on mine since it is free but yours looks perfect. Of course since they drilled holes to mount the lights on mine I will have to live with it unless I want to go through the pain of plugging the holes,a paint job and money to buy that type of front end

You could use black plastic fill plugs. Of course you would have black plastic but better than holes.

Hi guys, Clemsoncartguy mentioned not to let it coast down hill to fast or it could damage the motor, does anyone know what the maximum coasting is on a series cart??? I don't have money to play with and sure don't want to waste any if I can avoid problems!

Johnnie B your mathematical skills are requested.
I'm gonna make an educated guess based up your 14 mph on the flats that 50% faster is about all you really want to ask the cart for rpm wise on a consistent basis if longevity is the goal. That would allow about 21 mph spurts briefly.

I got a feeling others are going to work up a number higher than that based upon tire size and rpm but...... I'm talking about every day year after year.
