97 Workhorse 1500g starter not spinning.
Many many hands have worked this cart before me. A lot of previous shade tree fixes. So, I have thus far replaced the pedal micro-switch, solenoid, voltage regulator, and igniter. And correctly repaired many spliced wires. It worked for about an hour a few days ago but went back to starter not spinning. Am hearing solenoid clicking. What is weird now, the in-line fuse is getting hot to the touch. Oh, have benched tested the starter, and it spins on the bench.
This newby looking forward to any and all input. Thank you all. |

Try jumping between the positive battery post and the solenoid. Sometimes there is hidden corrosion in the positive cable. Other than that, clean all grounds on the big cables.

Re: 97 Workhorse 1500g starter not spinning.
Cart, Did as you suggested. Jumped Batt. to Solenoid. Then solenoid to starter. Cleaned ground connectors to frame from battery/frame and starter/frame. Then also jumped from the electric panel plate (that the solenoid/igniter/voltage reg are mounted on) to a solid frame ground. As stated, feel solenoid engaging, but not so much as a wiggle of the starter belt. BUT when I jump from POS to starter, starter spins. I'm at a loss.

You are losing voltage. It looks like you have three choices.
The cable from battery to solenoid. Solenoid Cable from solenoid to starter. I have seen hidden corrosion in the positive battery cable cause this problem. Did you try jumping across the solenoid? |
