Default 1996 EZGO TXT burns lots of oil.

Hey guys, just a quick update on my previous thread. Turns out it’s a 1996 and not a 2004 as I initially thought. Anyway, the thing is it now runs quite well considering it is 24 years old, but I was just wondering if the oil-burning thing is normal in these engines, I’ve heard it is but I wanted to know your opinion.

I couldn’t tell you the exact amount of oil but it does smoke a bit when cold and smells too. I consider it to be quite normal as this engine had been sitting there for about 10 years and I’ve recently repaired it, so there must be loads of crap in the exhaust thus the bad smell.

Change the oil and only put 1.4 qts in. If it continues it is either rings or valve seals. Might want to check your valve gap as well..

Old post but still good information https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=1196

What kgsc said :-) There is a good chance it just needs the valve seals. If they are original, I doubt any of the teflon is left. Its a very easy job and you can check your valve clearances while you are in the business.
