Driven Clutch Bolt Removal
Good day folks!
1999 Precedent DS Need to remove the Driven Clutch... A) Is the Attaching Bolt "Right Hand" or "Left Hand" Threads? B) After Bolt removal, what is the best method of removing the Clutch? Thanks in Advance! Bruce Nichols |

Re: Driven Clutch Bolt Removal
1999 would be clockwise rotation motor. Left hand thread so righty loosy lefty tighty.
You’ll need a clutch puller to press it off. And most likely an impact gun, if the clutch hasn’t been removed in a while they can be stubborn. If you buy one make sure it’s hardened steel. Mild steel can mushroom inside the end of the crankshaft and cause more problems than it solves. I made my own using a really long grade 8 bolt I cut the head off it (1/4” I think but I could measure it) by about 6” long. And I use a head bolt from a polaris sportsman that threads into the clutch… it’s like 10” long but it’s what I had at the time and it works but it kinda works out well since the bolt is so long it reaches through the wheel well nicely. I’ve used this setup probably a hundred times and never had an issue. If you search here you can find thread pitch and stuff info to go to ace and buy what you need. The important part is the rod or “pusher” that slides in the clutch MUST be grade 8 or higher. Trust me you don’t want to see the mess it makes if it mushrooms |

Re: Driven Clutch Bolt Removal
Driven clutch bolt is right hand thread. Remove the bolt and the clutch should slide right off.
It may be rusted on and may need some light persuasion with a prybar behind it to get it to start moving. |

Re: Driven Clutch Bolt Removal
Sorry, my fault. I read incorrectly I thought it said drive clutch
Driven clutch is a normal bolt and thread, should be a 1/2” or 13mm. It’s a straight shaft with a key way and probably rusted on. A little persuasion with a 2x4 and a hammer can help it. Last one I removed was rusted bad enough I had to take off the rear body, use a long strike-through pry bar and literally beat it off of there. If your cart hasn’t been thrashed it may just slide off with a little wiggle. Hopefully that’s the case for you lol |

We don't disagree... we just trade off on which one of us will be right this time around
CP will probably get the next one and I'll be the nincompoop. |

Re: Driven Clutch Bolt Removal
Love it... Hahahah! Thanks guys...
Ok, update is YES it turned out to be a little 1/4-20 Grade 5 Hex bolt about 1.5 inches long. A very delicate (lowest setting) application of my 1/4" Impact and it whirled right out. Then the Clutch simply slid off by HAND! I'm currently waiting on acquiring a more 'robust' Snap Ring Plier to dissassemble the sucker. One of the Buttons is missing and the attaching bolt is snapped off. Hoping a Left Hand Drill Bit will persuade it. If not, it's Drill & Helicoil time. So, after I conquer the above mentioned problem, my next question... What's the preferred trick for getting the Belt on this sucker! Onward... Bruce |

Re: Driven Clutch Bolt Removal
Fairtax and I rarely, if ever disagree. Doesn’t stop us from giving each other a hard time
Honestly I’d just replace it. If the ramp buttons are worn it’s probably seen better days. Ive used several of the aftermarket ones on Amazon with no problems at all, they’re like 80 bucks. As for installing the belt, just put the cart in neutral. Put it on the drive clutch and roll it on to the driven clutch. Shouldn’t really take any effort at all |

Re: Driven Clutch Bolt Removal
Those little bolts suck.
If there is any of it sticking up and you can grab it with a pair of pliers it might spin right out. Try some heat on the base metal first to break any corrosion or thread-lock that might be on the threads. Shouldn’t need much, usually 10 seconds or so with a propane torch is plenty. If there’s not enough to grab with pliers I usually try making a notch in the shank with a dremel wheel just deep enough to put a flat head screwdriver in and try to turn it out. |
