Name This Part
I have attached a picture of a part that was installed between the battery cable and the battery post on my neighbor’s cart. What is this and what is it used for? I have posted about the melted battery post earlier and the majority feel that it was caused by a loose connection. Could this part have caused the melting battery post issue if it failed?

Re: Name This Part
Its your charging fuse and it replaces the one in the plug receptacle,it was called a reed switch. If it was loose it would cause the post to burn down.

Re: Name This Part
Thanks for the info!
I cannot make out the part number since this was burnt. How can I figure what the appropriate amperage should be to replace this fuse? |

That is a beautiful picture of what can happen from loose connections. I had this happen to me last year in the middle of the woods with 2 riders. We had to limp home on 5 batteries. Drive a little, stop, have a beer, let the controller cool down and repeat. Lucky for us we were only a few beers from home... This was a serious wake up call for monthly maintenance. I have become a clean freak about my batts! |

Re: Name This Part
Those fuses are mainly used in controller upgrades from Alltrax or other controller manufactures, that has nothing to do with a reed switch, The whole purpose of that fuse is to safe guard the controller from the battery pack, Usually installed on the negative side, the reed switch was designed to prevent the cart from moving if the charger was still plugged in, but on 90% of the carts I have worked on the Reed switch has been bypassed, but thats a whole differnt topic,

Re: Name This Part
Looks a little large for a charger fuse...looks like a 250 amp controller fuse.
