85 ezgo 2 cycle cable adjustment problems
My 85 ezgo with a robin engine is causing me fits. When you push the throttle down and the micros switch click in the cart start up and takes off at full speed. You can not run at a slow speed. If you let off the throttle to try and slow down the switch cut out and the cart will back fire. I figure the cables are out of wack as I had one replaced last fall but cant get them set right. Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: 85 ezgo 2 cycle cable adjustment problems
Perhaps a mod could move this to the GAS section?

Re: 85 ezgo 2 cycle cable adjustment problems
Ok I have read all the other forums about making sure the butterfly closes all the way when you let off the throttle. At rest the butterfly is completely closed but when you run the cart and then let off the throttle it stays open and then closes slowly until the engine shuts down. So I still get a backfire. Could the coiled spring that shuts the butterfly be week or do I have the cables out of adjustment. Anyone who has a pic they could send me of the proper settings on the cables would be appreciated. I have done adjusted but still cant get the butterfly to close as it should.

Re: 85 ezgo 2 cycle cable adjustment problems
Is it possible the throttle cable is broken? If this happens the throttle will be wide open and when you let up an the gas this shuts the spark off, but not the gas. When you step on the gas you have spark and a huge backfire. Just a thought as this happened on my 81 E-Z-Go.

Re: 85 ezgo 2 cycle cable adjustment problems
Not real sure how that system is setup but if the throttle doesn't close when you let off the gas, by all means, put a spring on there so it will.
If the cable is bent, kinked, in a bind, wore out, it could act like that. The spring on the carb may be bad or not have enough pulling force on the cable if it's in a bind. |

Re: 85 ezgo 2 cycle cable adjustment problems
I had the same problem on my '88 and I had to readjust the the throttle adjustment on the microswitch. Solved my problem and now it runs great!
