Default Yamaha G16 no start

Took my cart out with the family and after riding it then it started breaking up. Thought maybe the carb needed to be cleaned but after trying to clean it I noticed the bowl oring and gasket for bolt were leaking so ordered a new carb. With new carb its not starting at all. Just turns over. I can see gas dripping out of overflow hose. Seems like its not firing at all but pulled plug and started and i can see some spark. Any ideas???

Did you buy a new OEM carb or one of the cheap amazon/Ebay ones? If not OEM then do yourself the favor of starting off right. Clean the OEM one real good making sure to blow compressed air through all the passages. Use the gaskets on the Chinese one and throw it in the trash.

Using one of the junk Chinese clone carbs is setting yourself up to chase your tail in circles trying to fix problems that were created by that piece of junk.

it still should start. I always use the green change theory.
the last thing changed is what is broke.
Did it run before the new carb? even if badly.
combustion engines need basically 4 things to run.
fuel, fire , air, and compression.
so you say you have fire.
was the plug wet?
try putting a little gas in the plug hole and give her a try. if she hits then you have a fuel problem. if so check to make sure the butterfly is opening.
if it don't hit then maybe compression or air issue
take the breather off to make sure you are getting air
check your compression.

one more note in the south dirt dobbers stop up every thing.
and we have had them stop up the exhaust ( you know the old banana in the tail pipe trick)

It was a cheap carb just to see if it ran any better. Plus when I priced out the oring and bowl washer it was almost same price as the knockoff carb. Today i will put those parts on the original carb and see if theres any difference. Also the plug was wet. I pulled the air filter out and looks like there was some gas inside the carb inlet that attaches to airbox.(black elbow on carb) I dont have a compression tester to check compression so I'll have to pick one up.

Pick up a spark tester, too. This might be a bad TCI.

JN6-85640-00-00 T.C.I. UNIT ASSY $83.27

Don't buy aftermarket.

Short update...pulled plug back out and noticed piston was wet and liquid seems to be gas and smells like gas. Compression was good. Again cleaned up the plug and checked for spark against engine block. Can see small amount of spark while turning motor over. Could there not be enough spark.

TCI=coil=spark. Get the in-line spark tester

too much gas? wont start either?

i know this might be a stupid question.

but is the gas old?
have water in the gas maybe?

hold the butterfly wide open and turn it over get rid of the gas in the chamber may take a few seconds like 30 then put a little fresh gas in the plug hole and put the plug in and see if she will hit or at least backfire or something

any more info will help us guide you in the right direction

Picked up spark tester yesterday and found the light is pulsing. Decided to pull the airbox back off to swap back to factory carb. Attempted starting with airbox off and noticed throttle on carb not opening when pressing gas pedal. It appears govenor plate was drilled out in order to bypass govenor and the adjustment is off. Id like to bypass the govenor completely using just the cable off the pedal. Does anyone have pics of how they routed the cable to the carb?

I guess you're talking about this modification. With the cables properly adjusted there should be no problem. The cable may also be broken. In that case, replace both.
