Question regarding options for a 1996 DCS EZGO Cart
I just purchased a 1996 EZGO TXT DCS cart. I ran the serial number off the ezgo site and confirmed it's definitely a DCS. My question is, what is a DCS cart? What features does this cart have that a standard cart doesn't? Ideally I want to speed this cart up, can this be done by programming the controller? This is my first cart and I know enough to be dangerous, but I'm questioning whether I should put time into this cart or quickly sell it and wait for a better one. Thanks.

Re: Question regarding options for a 1996 DCS EZGO Cart
DCS carts were only made from 1995 to 2000, the motors are OK but they had a reputation of blowing up controllers regularly.
The best thing you could do with this cart is to upgrade the cables to 4ga and get a 400 amp controller like an Alltrax DCX400. When you're done with that, if everything else is stock you should see between 18-20mph out of it and have no problems. You can then sell the controller you have for $100 before it blows up. |

Paid $750 for it. Ideally would like to have a cart that goes 18-20mph with a lift kit, nice tires. Just not sure if this is the one to spend the money on, or sell it and wait for another.

Re: Question regarding options for a 1996 DCS EZGO Cart
The price seems OK. If you are willing to put another $500 in it, you'll have a great cart then you can start adding lifts and wheels.
You could also sell it and start looking for a 2001 and up PDS cart that will give you 18mph with a simple $5 ebay chip. In the end, whatever cart you buy, it will likely need upgrading when you add a lift and large tires. |

Is there any advantage to the DCS? What is it?

Re: Question regarding options for a 1996 DCS EZGO Cart
I'll dig into the cart tomorrow. I flipped the run/tow switch and nothing happened which tells me someone modified the cart. Interested to find out if they simply bypassed the switch or if they swapped out the original controller already.

If the run/tow is in the tow mode the controller is disabled and the cart should not run.

Re: Question regarding options for a 1996 DCS EZGO Cart
The DCS cart produced a lot more torque than any other drive system Ezgo came up with. I have seen them on 48v that could almost climb trees But they always have that hole in them...... in low voltage situations they EAT controllers..... So yes, you can off road or 48v them so long as you have a bulletproof voltmeter and know how to read it...
P.S. I stay away from them when possible because it is hard to tell a customer that if they run the batteries down it will cost $5-600 to replace the speed control ... basically that is why they abandoned the model. |
