Default 98 transmission

My trans won't shift into gear. Cable yoke moves back and forth. I noticed that the shaft moves in and out and I feel that is not right. When I shift into reverse the gears make a noise like they are not engaging right. Shift to forward and nothing happens. I have removed the trans from the cart and am ready to disassemble but need an exploded view of the trans. Does anyone have one I can download. Thanks

Sure it's not a stripped wheel hub?

With the cables removed, try to shift the rear end in to forward and reverse by hand and see if it works. Before you take it a part

Thanks for the answer and diagram. I tried everything I could think of. Finally I went to ask.com, got some "expert", described my problem and told him what I I had already done, paid my fee and his answer was it's internal. So I took it out took it apart ansd found everything alright. What I found and I believe is the problem is the ball and spring retainer is malfunctioning and not allowing the shaft to go all the way to engage gears. gonna put it back together, see if I can find a new ball and spring and hopefully it'll be okay. Your diagram really helped a lot. Thanks again. I'll repost when I find the problem.
sorry for being long winded. Jim 1007

I have found in 2 of these that the ball groove on the shift shaft will push the aluminum in at the edge of it's bore due to the detent ball and spring pressure. This makes the shaft tight and not smooth. Check to see if this is the case, if so, file it out so the shaft slides smoothly.
