My G14 inside look
While I am tearing my G14 down parting it out on ebay these are pics of how clean it is inside after 350 hours of use with synthetic oil. For these pics all I did was removed the cylinder head and wipe the bore with a paper towel.

Re: My G14 inside look
The cylinder looks a little scored in the pic Ray. I don't see any cross hatch.
Doesn't look super bad. A good hone would probably clean it right up. Top of the piston looks good considering it was smoking. Kind of weird. You'd think the piston top would be black. I rebuild a 400ex that was smoking pretty bad and...same thing...top of the piston was clean. |

Re: My G14 inside look
Also the minute it started smoking I shut it down. That is still the original bore.Had I not went clone it would have gotten the first overbore. All the parts inside look like new.All the insides are up on ebay.Still have to clean the outside of the engine so the block, head, and front cover are waiting for me to finish the task. The other interesting part is that every thing was sludge free.I did not even wipe out the area where the pushrods go. That is just how it looked after I removed the head.

Re: My G14 inside look
It is clean, but from the picture, it will need to be bored because of the piston to cylinder clerance.

Re: My G14 inside look
Great eye. It was several thousands over spec in clearance when I did a ring and rod bearing job on it in 2008.The georgia parts supplier I used then suggested new rings and rod bearings and see what happens. It did have a certain amount of piston slap but used it for 350 hours until it started to smoke in late 2014.While searching for an oversize piston for a rebore I tripped over someone selling a VC 460 clone kit at a great price. The engine had been tripping me in the garage ever since so I decided after not being able to sell it here to part it out on ebay.Today was the first time I seen the inside since 2008.

Re: My G14 inside look
Here are 2 pics of the piston as it looked just after I pulled it out of the engine. This not wiped down or cleaned in any way.And as far as I can tell it is the one Yamaha put in there in 1995.

Re: My G14 inside look
It was about how the syn oil left the piston and block looking like new and sludge free. Parts are long gone and I certainly never put the used piston for sale.P.S. The bump itself was for the oil type thread For Done Deal. I don't understand what is the issue here ?
