Default 8:1 Gears with Plowman's YDR Performance Kit

Hello,

I have a 2009 Yamaha G29 and I just installed the Plowman's performance Kit. Awesome power gain for climbing hills and am now hitting 30-32 mph.

Just wondering if anyone has also installed 8:1 gears with this kit. How much will it affect low end power.

My cart has the Jakes long travel kit with 23" tires.

Thanks

That's a great question for Don Plowman, I'm sure he's done it.

IMO adding 8:1 gears should only be used to lower your engine rpm, not raising ground speed. Even a nicely built cart is dangerous above 35 mph, just be cautious. And adding high speed gears will take some low end grunt away. Most big block powered cars can still work well, but I'm not sure about stock engines. I know you have the Plowmans treatment, but you will likely feel the strain on low speed steep inclines. Most conditions you will probably be ok.

I suggest against it, and I bet Don would too. 8:1 is too much gear for off-road sized tires. Performance would suffer too much.
