Default 1986 Marathon Coil question

Can the coil go bad and cause intermittent spark? Or if coil goes bad you have nothing? Mine started missing the other day and I think it might be the coil.Everything was fine then on the way home from a friend's down the street it started missing.

It's possible, but I would change the plug first.

Go to post #3 of this thread, and download the .pdf file.

There is a troubleshooting section for the ignition system that has all of the values for the coil, pulsar, and igniter. Don't start throwing parts at it yet.

I'm also curious to know if your plug is getting wet. Sometimes a ripped diaphragm in the fuel pump presents itself as an ignition problem.
