ignition switch

have lost the key to a 96 carryall. Cart has a keyed 4 terminal switch + a toggle switch. Without the toggle switch in the on position the cart will turn over from the keyed switch but not start. with that toggle on the cart will turn over and start and stay running by jumping from the battery+ directly to the starter. The wiring is a patchwork mess not my doing. I think I should be able to touch in some combination 2 terminals on the back of the keyed switch and cause it at least to turn over. I have a switch that has no markings and 4 terminals with multiple wires on 2 and 2 single wires on the remaining 2. Can I safely buy a 4 terminal switch and just reconnect the wires as they are any thoughts advice
