Wiring lights and a winch? Use a converter or hard wiring?
Since I am getting my cart back Friday, I want to add lights and A Winch to the cart to keep me out of as much trouble as possible.
should I go for the converter or hard wire them to the batteries- wire between two 6 volts to get twelve and what is the best place to wire this in? it is a 89 marathon with a speed controler thanks Spots |

I would ( ADD ) a 12 volt battery for the kinds of load you would get from a winch. The last winch I saw drew more than what most converters output is?
Get a 12 volt deep cycle battery and hard wire the winch and lights to it to solve many later problems? Remember that NOTHING CAN BE GROUNDED TO CART FRAME IN AN ELECTRIC UNIT. Thats my .02 WORTH? |

My opinion is the best final result is to install a voltage reducer because the pack draw is even and the charging is as usual! Be sure to get one rated for 20 amps for a winch......

You are going to have to hardwire directly to the battery with a fuse of course.
The full load amp draw on the smallest Warn ATV winch is 65 amps. If you have the space, I think oldmec has the right idea, use a separate battery. Here's the Warn ATV site: http://www.warn.com/atv/winches/choose_model.shtml |

Re: Wiring lights and a winch? Use a converter or hard wiring?
I have an 89 marathon- I was going over the battery compartment and was thinking of the space between the F&R switch and the controler- between the battery packs
or does any one have a better Idea- A newbie wanting to learn Spots |
