Default '95 model cuts out and restarts while driving

Morning all. A friend asked me to look at a 95 model (AG9546 on the ID plate) for him because when driving along, it will cut power intermittently and return to idle for a few seconds. If the gas pedal is held down, it will pick up again and continue driving for a short while before doing it again.

Does anyone have any pointers to what it could be please? It seems like a fuelling issue but the filter is always full (he drove while I observed the engine with the seat removed).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Mitch.

If no one has any suggestions, are there any troubleshooting manuals available?

Does it do it at high Rpms. Could be the rev limiter kicking in. It will shut down the engine for about 2 to 3 seconds. I think it kicks in around 4300

Check the vent on the carb. It's next to the adjustment screw....a little silver nipple. It normally has a plastic tube going from from to the it. I had a cart doing something similar and when I pulled the tube off, it ran great. Plug it up, it ran bad. Took my air hose and blew out the plastic line. Something came out! Plugged back up and ran fine.

Had the same issue with another cart, but it had no tube connected. Took some carb cleaner with the straw on it and stuck it in the little hole. Blew it out and runs fine now.

If neither of those are the issue, I agree with previous post.....rev limiter.

just had one today that did this, it was a bad rpm limiter. You can start it in service mode and pull / unplug the first connector in line on the rpm limiter and if the cart doesn't shut off its likely the problem

Thanks very much for the suggestions, I'll take a look when I get back home in a couple of weeks.
