Engine bushing/bolt replacement
So I'm upgrading the 1991 DS with new machined driven clutch, spring and severe duty belt and I kept looking at the engine on the cradle and it seemed, well, off. I decided its time to replace the 22 year old rubber bushings under the motor and boy was I glad I did. The bolts were just about worn through and the bushings were dry. The pics tell the story. The new bolts are 3/8 thread x 2.5" long carriage style with a 3/8" I.D. steel sleeve - 1" long, with 3/8" nylock nuts. The bushings can be purchased at any local automotive store, part number is in the picture. I had to cut off the old bolts with a cutoff wheel but now the engine/drive clutch seems perfectly aligned with the driven clutch.

Re: Engine bushing/bolt replacement
Nice! The stock bushings are way over priced!! Where did you get the sleeves?

Re: Engine bushing/bolt replacement
Just some food for thought;
The stock carriage bolts are grade 5, most hardware store bolts are not graded. Also the stock bushings are hard polyurethane, not soft rubber. |
