From everything I have read and heard about these I would go easy with the air tools. May over tighten it. Just sayin

1/4" drive with a 10 mm deepwell socket. Haven't snapped one yet.... usually once they are tightened enough the socket kinda jumps off the bolt head. But yeah, if you aren't sure, use hand tools......

take it from someone who has done many, many rxv brakes (and learned from overtightening the hard way). be very careful about how tight you set those bolts.

What happens when you over tighten the bolts? Is it an immediate problem, or a problem that happens later?

it will shorten the life of the new brake. could be something you find out in 6 months (how could this da## thing fail in only 6 months!?), could ruin the brake in a few hundred feet. i learned by killing one in about a quarter mile, it was toast, stinking & everything. overtightening warps the steel plate that sits against the motor.

cgtech, do these brakes normally have lock washers installed on the bolts? I ask because I pulled my dead brake off today in preperation for the new one hopefully arriving tomorrow and it did not have lock washers.

yes, the bolts always have lock washers from the factory. i wouldnt try going without the lock washers, the bolts arent super tight when properly done. 53-71 INCH POUNDS is the factory spec (that equals roughly 4.5 - 6 foot pound range) with lock washers.

Well the fun continues, when I went to reinstall the old bolts I found they are slightly bent, just enough so they will not screw back in. So now after driving all over town (small town) and not finding a matching bolt I am searching for them online.

Had a similar issue - the holes didn't line up "exactly."

One hole on the brake seemed to be a little "restrictive," so getting the bolt to thread into the motor without cross-threading (with the back seat frame still on) was tricky.

I was afraid I could ruin the motor threads if not threaded in correctly - and that was hard to determine - before I took the wrench to it. That took about as long as the whole rest of the repair.
