Default 2003 Club Car DS - slow going

2003 Club Car DS 48v. Been sitting a while. Motor was bad so had it rebuilt by a reputable local motor shop. Has 6 brand new US Battery 8 Volt batteries.

Cart will only run about 9mph (per GPS) and seems way slower than it should be.

Any ideas what it could be? Cart rolls fine on the ground so I do not think there is an issue with the rearend diff or brakes..

What to check?

Thanks in advance!!

does your car have a rocker switch forward/reverse? or lever f/r down by your legs?? yeah its slow but not far off, they were not designed to be fast really like 10-13-mph something like that. Also, towards the front of the car under the seat in the drivers side corner tucked next to the batteries, is there a black half moon/triangle shaped black box (known as a v glide)??

If the serial number of your cart begins with "AQ" you've more than likely got a bad speed sensor. Read the thread in the provided link below for further testing. When you buy a speed sensor, don't buy a cheap one. I use the factory sensors because they have been proven to last much longer than the Chinese ones on eBay and Amazon.

On your 2003 DS, you've more than likely got the GE motor. You'll need to know that information when you order a sensor.

Cart has the lever FNR down by your legs. I will have to check to see if it has the 'v glide' when I get home this evening.

The serial number begins with 'AA'..

Ok disregard my message about the speed sensor. You've got a "series" drive system. These carts are not speed demons by any stretch of the imagination. 12-14mph is about all you're ever gonna get out of them unless you upgrade the motor and/or controller. Ideally you want to make sure you're getting maximum throttle input from the MCOR (Motor Controller Output Regulator). It's the little black box underneath the passenger side of the floorboard with a rod running directly to the accelerator pedal. A common problem on a DS is for the rod to develop wear where it fits against the accelerator. This extra wear will cause the cart not to run 100% throttle, even with the pedal on the ground. Remove the MCOR, pull the rod out and put a small piece of rubber (1/4" Fuel Hose works great) over the forward-most part of the fork on the rod and re-install it. This will tighten the rod up and take the slop out of it. This may be your entire issue. Other contributing factors can be low tire pressure, incorrect front end alignment, and weak battery voltage.

And as always...high speed rear end gears...that's what I installed on my '98 DS and boy did it wake the old girl up!

Update, took it for a test prior to 'hose trick'.. Meter shows 47/48 volts at motor under throttle. However, it started slowing down.
Now will only run about 3mph and now has NO reverse...

Ideas/thoughts??

Confirm that the throttle signal is 1100 ohms with the pedal on the floor and the lever in forward. Test the throttle signal at the controller yellow and green blade terminals. Just unplug them and insert your meter leads into the connectors. If you're getting full throttle signal into the controller and full battery voltage into the controller but not out of the controller, the controller has obviously failed. I would say that you may have a potential motor problem, but when motors fail on series cars such as yours they tend to chatter and operate intermittently instead of running slowly.
