Default Brief update on my "dead" Deka batteries...

See this thread for details...

http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...ies-saved.html

I've just been using the cart every morning to run my kid to the bus stop... so it hasn't been leaned-on very hard since bringing the batteries back from the dead.

I was using an old borrowed Yamaha charger... which was keeping the batteries charged enough for me to not be concerned with them. Never even put a meter on them. Just plugged it in every time I used it.

A week ago I gave back the Yamaha charger and replaced it with a DPI Accusense charger. Plugged it in right as it was out of the box, on setting #2.

It's been pumping life into the batteries for a solid week now...

Last night... I took the cart on a nice long aggressive hill-laden ride...
(wife went for walk... so I followed her in the cart)
I get enough exercise at work... so no need to walk with her right ?

Anyway... after this 45min steady ride up steep hills and probably 2 miles from the house... I put the meter on the batteries and had 49.5v immediately after parking it. (70%)

That's good enough for me to brave a much further trip and tells me I may not need new batteries just yet.

As a reference to what good batteries will do... Over 2 miles of real hills and 20/25 MPH speeds my 2 year old batteries will still read 100 % SOC after a brief rest... Keep in mind that weak batteries can start falling hard and fast and that once you're down to 50/60 % SOC you should consider charging....

Your pushing your luck. Wait till it starts getting cold and watch this forum light up with bad battery questions.
