Default Puking gas...?

1989 EZGO Marathon 3PG, new reed gaskets, new fuel lines, filter, newish pump and fresh gas.

I have the original Mikuni bv18 carburetor, cleaned and reassembled. Also have a Chineseium knock off that the PO included in the sale.

Both carbs are puking fuel out of the bowl vents. tried changing needles floats etc and it is no help.

engine will run rough, backfire with air showing up in the fuel lines, spurt fuel out of the carb mouth, take off like a raped ape, then die again, with fuel leaking.

The case seals are good. no leaks, etc.

I'm at a loss and about to spend the money on a mikuni replacement from EZGO.

anyone have ANY luck repairing these issues??

What kind of pump are you running?

square style aftermarket one that the PO or the PO to him had installed. its remote mounted on the body instead of the OEM one on the crankcase.

it just has rubber hose running to it. doesn't seem to have any issues supplying fuel, but the air pockets in the fuel line do seem to coincide with the backfiring.

Square one is the one on the cart now. it has a line running from the pump to a fitting on the engine for the engine pulse to drive the pump.

round pump actually mounts onto the engine crankcase itself.

do these make a difference?

Is a remote pump common? I believe the square pump is for 4 cycle and we are getting to much fuel so we ordered a block mounted pump. Don't know why PO put in remote pump other than available parts.
