Default How do I find out the year of my ezgo

I will get pics tomorrow. I picked up a ezgo cart. It has a 2 stroke engine in it. On the side just above the front wheel the is a badge that is 8V. The 8 is above the V. I looked for the label that is suppose to be on the passenger side in or under the glove box. I have looked all around for a tag but I am unable to locate it. I don't know much about 2 stroke engines, (more of a 4 stroke guy) but I couldn't pass it up. I have gotten it to fire and start a couple times but can't get it to "run". Also I can't get it to turn over in forward gear, only reverse. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Engine, and exhaust pics will determine everything.

Wedge front end? Plastic nose?
internal, or external starter. We will look at all of that, and pretty much nail it.

Unhappy Re: How do I find out the year of my ezgo

Here are the pictures. Just trying to figure out what year it is approximate. Also if anybody has input on how to get it to start in the forward also because they're all to try to start and reverse. Thank you in advance.

I looked there. I also looked in the driver side, behind the seat, under the seat, inside the glove box, tried to peel the mat there's nothing underneath the mat. I didn't know if there was another place or another way that I can figure it out

You have an 88 body, but that isn't the 88 exhaust. It still has the BV-18 carburetor too.

It's still a 2pg engine, so not an 89 or newer.

Possibilities...
New nose cowl on older cart. (I did that to mine)
Older engine in an 88.
Very early 88 that didn't get the new muffler, and carburetor.
Very late 87 with new 88 cowl.

Look at the back of the FnR switch.
If there are 2 microswitches mounted on it, it's at least an 87. Possibly an 86.
If it only has one microswitch, it is an 85, or older.

Parts are easy enough to find for that engine.
Turning only in one direction means that the starter probably needs brushes.
It could be a dirty FNR switch or bad wire, But I'm leaning towards brushes.

Thank you cart around. What would the gas oil mixture be for it? I think I may have figured out my running issue. (DUMMY) I have a separate gas tank attached just to try to get it to run, gravity fed. I put MAYBE a half a cup of gas in it and at least half a bottle of 2 stroke oil.... DUH!! To much oil and it probably wont run. Like I said... DUMMY! lol

128:1 One ounce of oil per gallon of gas.

If you are running with the fuel line off, I would at least plug it to make sure the pump is airtight.

So I figured out why the starter/generator was not working. One of the post welded itself to the frame somehow, then burnt off. I welded it back together and it work..ed.. Not it doesn't work correctly. If I swap the wires on the face... No the sides, it will spin one way the swap them again it will spin the other way.I did get the cart to run and took it for a ride... BROKE DOWN!!! The float is stuck open I believe and flooded out the engine. I am having a grounding issue. I cannot get a good ground from the battery to the frame or engine. I took the starter back apart and cleaned all the "gunk" out of it. It was very black and almost greasy inside. Still no improvement. Anyone have a wiring diagram that might be close for this cart? I can't figure if it it the starter that is bad or if it is the "controller". I think I have an idea of how to bypass the controller with a double solenoid. I know this is a lot of rambling but I am hoping someone could help a little bit. Thanks again for the help.

The first post has your diagram if the FnR switch has 2 microswitches. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-e...3pg-carts.html

The diagram in the manual is correct if it only has one microswitch.

This is the correct manual for your engine.
What you are calling the controller is the forward/ reverse switch. (FnR)
It can be taken apart, and cleaned.

The only real difference in those manuals is the 2nd microswitch. The driver's side switch is for the reverse buzzer. The passenger side switch is called a neutral safety switch. You really don't need either one for the cart to run.
