Changing RXV Charger Connector to D style
Have a delta q RXV charger with triangle connector, need to convert to D style connector for cart that has been upgraded from 36 to 48 volts.
Where does the third (Green) wire go? I have read other posts on this topic and it seems like they say simply tie the green wire to battery negative, but then I read somewhere about a temp sensor wire and charge profiles and so I am a little confused. Also just opened the brand new D style connector and NONE of the reed switch parts are in it. Will that be problematic if I do not mind if cart is not disabled when charging? Re: Changing RXV Charger Connector to D style
Inside the charger handle plug (not on the cart port side), add a 10k ohm resistor from the green wire to the black wire. That will trick the charger to think the temp sensor is working fine. The Reed switch stuff is not in the charger handle.

Re: Changing RXV Charger Connector to D style
Maybe I am confused about the reed switch, the previous D style connector I opened had some type of switch in it and this handle has a place for that switch but no hardware in it.

Re: Changing RXV Charger Connector to D style
The third wire in the charger handle was a "voltage sensing" wire to give the charger control board a voltage reading closer to the batteries, eliminating the voltage drop from the chargers cord. Not all chargers used the voltage sensing wire. This wire also allowed the charger to turn off just before the bigger connectors lost their connection if unplugged while still charging, which increased the life of the larger connectors.

Re: Changing RXV Charger Connector to D style
How many watts for that 10k Ohm resistor? I was guessing very small, but then I remembered that the green wire was the same gauge and the other two wires.

Re: Changing RXV Charger Connector to D style
Just buy a RXV charge port.
Black on pack - red on pack + grey with wire on pack + that way charger and cart are "Correct" and no one will plug wrong charger into wrong cart we do a lot of 36 to 48v conversions and change the cart port for safety reasons. having a 48v charger with a 36v plug is a safety issue in our lawyers opinion. |

Re: Changing RXV Charger Connector to D style
A properly functioning 48v charger won't activate at 36v for this reason. And a 36v charger may activate on 48v, but it won't charge the 48v batteries.
