Re: Dual SPAL Electric Cooling Fans Install
You can try hooking those two fans up in series and test performance. Lower noise and current draw if you get the performance you need.

Re: Dual SPAL Electric Cooling Fans Install
They put out up to 20-35 amps at full speed, and depending on if you have a higher output S/G. These numbers are only achieved if the battery is low or close to being drained. Once you have a fully charged battery the S/G only puts out 3-5 amps

Re: Dual SPAL Electric Cooling Fans Install
So, I finally found and ordered a couple of thermal bimetal thermostats that I’m going to bolt onto the engine (location not known yet). These thermostats “close” at 115 degrees and send 12 volts to the relay turn on lead, then the relay will then turn on the fans. These thermostats “open” back up at 100 degrees, and cut the 12 volt power to the fan relay, which then turns the fans off.
There are 8 more different preset bimetal thermostats I can order and play around with as far as “opening” temperature, all the way up to 250 degrees. This thermostat is rated at 15 amps. I am also still going to put in a manual override waterproof toggle switch! This is what the thermal bimetal thermostat I ordered looks like: 93AC4419-9486-44C3-BBA7-F38F197029B3.jpg |

Re: Dual SPAL Electric Cooling Fans Install
So, I went ahead and drew out my dual fan wiring diagram. This is my own rendering, please feel free to use it as a guide for your own wiring project. But, please do not duplicate it! Thanks
This diagram also includes the “override” toggle switch. Notice the position of the “override” toggle switch, it’s is tied into the grey wire between the Relay and the thermal/thermostat switch. 22AFCD5E-031F-4FF4-A518-8410609187A5.jpg 2EDACEDA-D1D9-4A58-96CD-3EBAD385CC83.jpg Thanks, CPS |

Re: Dual SPAL Electric Cooling Fans Install
I got the wiring harness all made up with quick connect plugs at each fan and installed wire loom. I made a “T” right below the driver side fan, and put in a quick connect plug there. Now I can work on the relay.

Re: Dual SPAL Electric Cooling Fans Install
I got the recessed switch panel installed right below the recessed engine choke pull cable. One switch is for my rock lights, and one is for the cooling fans. I used a 3” hole saw to mount this recessed panel. Both switched are triple epoxy dipped (red) and waterproof.
I got the relay mounted, and finished up the orange IGN 12V power wire (which I tapped onto the starter relay). I then ran the yellow CONSTANT 12V power to the factory fuse panel and put in a 20 amp glass fuse. The red FAN + wire is done and has the female end connector put on, and connected to my fan wiring harness. I have the relay gray wire and the 2 fan motors ground wires temporary connected together and grounded to the battery. I did this to test everything out. Now I have to find a good spot to mount the thermal thermostat switch and I will be done. Also, my 10 second delay relay is working out great. 503081FF-1A45-4DCD-B042-E4662B0499D6.jpg E66823CC-F9A0-4A49-8F6E-5659B3D9A246.jpg C8A2619C-0EBF-4AA2-9693-58CD08BCAF57.jpg 81DADA05-61AA-490F-A30D-1946880CB4C7.jpg 73E81D8E-F11D-4FF4-980F-388E79E82705.jpg |

Re: Dual SPAL Electric Cooling Fans Install
I am going to run the buggy up to normal operating temperature to get a non-electric fan temperature reading as a base line. I will use my infrared temperature gauge for this.
