yeow thanks guys...they have been charging about 5 hours now still showing about a 9amp draw..the temps on the batteries are all the same, about outside air temperature...

Question...from a totally discharged state HOW LONG might the charge cycle take with the lester 48v charger?

I'll do a specific gravity test after they finish charging, correct?

thaks walt

They could take up to 16 hours to fully charge. Yes, do the SG test after they finish, and preferably after they've sat for 12 hours.

I'd also check the 'new' charger that they bought, very well could have cooked those batteries because it wasn't configured for the pack, or worse, isn't a golf cart battery charger. IE: smart/dumb/wide open all the time/... Good Luck.

the "new charger he got is a model 4818 Eagle performance series 48v with the output plug cut off .

Just for grins I plugged it in to the battery pack at the same location as the charge port just to see..it just sits there with the same display lights that it shows even when off load..its broken.

update Saturday 8am CST have been charging the batteries with the Lester 48V on and off for 2+ days. total charge time about 30 hours.
charge for 6 hours drive around the neighbor-hood for 20 minutes
leave the charger off overnight

SG has risen from 1.0 to 1.160 on all 8 batteries ...gauge on dash showing a full charge
battery temperatures showing the same, near air temp. I Have about 3 hours hands on in the project including research time

spoke to owner, Said he tried to charge the dry batteries but charger wouldn't turn on...

Bought the new charger when he bought the batteries in mid 2018. Said it "never did work" I called dualpro for warranty repair...will bug them again Monday.

have a great weekend walt

Aha! i found out why the batteries went dry the lester never goes below 8 amps...just keep bubbling despite the fact that the batteries all show 100 percent charged at 6.3 v with my schumacher...

Just thought youd like to know

Is that 6.3v after 12 hours off the charger? It might not be shutting off because it can't bring the pack voltage up to the cut off voltage which should be around 58v. Here is a battery voltage chart so you can see what's going on.

morning handtools..will check that!..i drove it for 25 mins this am...gauge dropped to about 1/2
will recharge it...what led me to the conclusion that the charger wasn't shutting down is
1. The batteries were brought in completely dry
2. customer left the battery charger on during 6 month storage.
3. after i filled and charged them with 48v lester completely to 100% via dashgauge, them checked them with my digital schumacher also showing 100% the Lester continued an 8 amp charge, bubbling like crazy until i unplugged it.

On recharge now after my morning ride, ..will let the batteriess sit at least 12 hours after 100% will check SG and report back...thanks again for the insight.
Happy Sunday!

I've never seen an Eagle Performance charger fail period.

They will act like they're disconnected if the pack is not at least 15-18V on a 48V system.
