Default Key Voltage Reducer hook up on a 3 key position TXT

Just completed the hookup of a keyed ( read 5 wire ) 36 >> 12 volt voltage reducer. Discovered it is actually easier than I ( and maybe many ) think.

Looking at all of the wiring diagrams I could find both here ( thanks everybody! ) and other places online, I remained perplexed...

Every one of them said the key switch should have 36 volts
Mine did not.
No matter what I tried
Yes, the cart worked fine ( 2003 EZGO TXT PDS ) 3 position key switch

How I finally, 3000 gallons of sweat and gatoraid later, got it work.
(This assumes you have already gained access to the back of the key switch and R/N/F switch in the dash and are carefully following the directions regarding hooking up the reducer itself! )

1. The key switch has 4 terminals. Using a voltmeter, find the 2 that control the lights. ( 12 volts ) one is hot all the time, one only when the key is in the lights on position. ) now leave them alone!

2. Unplug the other 2 from the switch and connect them together ( I used a simple butt connector. ( This effectively bypasses the switch with no ill affects to the cart at all -- it expects this if the key is in the "ON" position )

3. Using a voltmeter find the one wire on the R/N/F switch that shows 36 volts all the time -

4. Unplug that wire ( only ) and plug it into either of the 2 open connectors on your key switch. ( The key switch will have no problem handing the 36 volts -- every wiring diagram I have ever seen says it is supposed to be anyway! )

5. Make a small connector wire about 3 - 4 inches long with female spade ends ( 16 gauge recommended )

6. Connect one end of this to the R/N/F switch where you removed the wire previously.

7. Connect your wire going to the voltage reducer's key switch wire to the other end of your new wire and then plug it into the last remaining open terminal on your key switch.

( Dont forget to turn the Run / Tow switch ON for both finding the 36 volt connections and for testing of your work )

Viola! Cart now functions exactly as before, voltage reducer is only on when the key is "ON" and light switch position also functions as before.
