Partial charge?
My shop and garage is 200 feet from my house, I charge my 03 cart out there. I'm in the shop a lot, often10-12 hours a day, long enough to partial charge my cart, but not long enough for the powerdrive2/OBC to turn off the charger. During that time I may need to run to the house or a neighbor with the cart. Many times the only cart use is shop to house, I'm unable to walk the distance anymore. I try to charge fully at 48.5v-49v, then I have to drive my TRUK to the house.
Is it ok to do many partial charges vs a full OBC cutoff charge? |

Re: Partial charge?
Absolutely. Keep doing it the way you are doing it. In the industry this is called an 'opportunity charge'. The bulk of the amperage is replaced in the 1st stage of charging. A 1 hour opportunity charge can make a big difference in the pack voltage at the end of the day. Especially when the grand kids visit and run the cart all freaking day long

Re: Partial charge?
That is fine - the only thing that really damages FLA batteries is having them discharged much past 50% . Charge it when you can and keep it mostly charged. It's good to get a full charge every so often to make sure all batteries are fully charged.

Re: Partial charge?
Also this may screw with the OBC but honestly the OBC should be removed and crushed in a vice
THe OBC tries to count the drain and match it with the charge. A smart charger will just charge until the batteries are full. |

Re: Partial charge?
My OBC took serious offense to your comment 😂
It suggested that you put a certain body part in that vise |

Re: Partial charge?
IMO the OBC was a lame excuse to make a cheap dumb charger work. I don't like them - I have had to help several golfing buddies fix their failed OBC carts. (by putting it in a vise and getting a Smart Charger) :-)

Re: Partial charge?
the cart is an 03 that was given to me 10 yrs ago, i keep expecting the obc to fail but it hasn't and i'm good with not spending money on it. other than a new batteries, rectifier in the charger and a couple of used tires, i really haven't spent any money on my cart. when the obc does poop the bed, i'll gladly vise it
