36v to 48v
I was told by plum quick that since I already have the altrax controller, in order change my cart from 36v to 48v all I really need to do is buy a 48v charger and 6 X 8V batteries. The motor can run on either voltage. Can anyone confirm this?

Re: 36v to 48v
Correct. You will also need a new solenoid and to program the controller for the new voltage.

Re: 36v to 48v
Diode should be okay because you are not changing the controller. Which one do you have?

Re: 36v to 48v
The diode should be 3 amps 1000v like 1N5408. If you got the diode from us 1N5408 is the only one we carry. Many stores sell a 1 amp 36v diode. The resistor should be 10w 470Ω.

Re: 36v to 48v
That's correct, but you'll also want a new solenoid, new wires, and new F/R switch for best performance.

Re: 36v to 48v
I don't see a need to change the MZJ400A 36/48v solenoid or the F&R switch. 48v uses less amperage than 36v to do the same amount of work. Less amperage creates less heat in all the components from motor to F&R.

If your planning on long WOT stints you will ideally want to upgrade the motor as well as the wiring because your far more likely to burn it up. this is the same reason people often wire solar panels in a series instead of parallel as the higher voltage with less amps traveling through the wires means thinner wires with the same power potential. |
