Re: G-16 need more power with new lift
You have no torque and the belt is slipping because there is nothing to hold the spring seat away from the transmission, which it is rubbing with out spacer or snap ring in place. Take clutch back off and put the spacer back in the correct way where u can see the groove for the snap ring. Put it all back together and it should take care of your problem.

Re: G-16 need more power with new lift
Belt should never slip in the secondary, but will slip in the primary on the engine if rpm are too low....into the engagement rpm area off idle. Problem is one thing compounds the other; if you are not getting the secondary all the way closed and belt at the top, then it will engage part way up the primary. You are trying to take off in second gear. If the belt is at the top, and bottom in the primary or close, and it still will not move the tires, then you have it stuck good and 9hp is not going to move it.

Re: G-16 need more power with new lift
I'm new to youtube so I hope this works. They modulation in the belt is doing that automatically. I'm holding the gas down untill you can hear the engine cut out. I tried to grease the primary and secondary and now I have more slippage. It seams as thought grease is loading up the sheaves and I tried to degrease it for 2 hours to no avail . Craig, My belt is slipping on the primary. If I put the spacer in either way, I can't see the space for the snap ring. Would you happen to have a pic of your setup for me to see? I'll be tearing it apart this weekend to experiment. |

Re: G-16 need more power with new lift
It seems to be working right, though it only shifts kind of high rpm but that might be the spring. The belt is pretty high (but ideal is at or just out the top with a new belt) but you should be able to see the snap ring slot that is where the hub should be located. Note that if the mounts are bad on the engine, you only see it under load. You would have to hold the brakes and floor it to see if the engine moves in. I would check the primary if you have not, make sure the rollers are good and all. Try acetone or alcohol to clean it off, you don't want grease usually one pump is good in each every 3 months use but mine needs more often in summer at times like a half pump a month and I don't use it every day. See how the primary comes off the belt at idle there, that stops happening on mine when it gets dirty and I run it near only on dirt of some kind. I also have the old weight style G9 clutch.
I have to get some videos posted lol! |

Yes, it only shifts at high RPM, that is why I left out that spacer.. that really cranked the spring down.

Re: G-16 need more power with new lift
Ok. I tore it down, cleaned it up "lightly" lubed the shafts. I added the spacer back in that came with the power kit. As you can see in the video, The primary and motor do not have enough power to compress the secondary spring. After this, I took the spacer out and it is a little better, but the primary never allows the belt to climb to the top of the primary. Also, on a small hill climb, I just don't have the power to get up it. The engine slightly bogs and the belt slips..
What should I do at this point? The belt is a little work, the secondary inner sheave is slighly worn. But not that bad over all. I just want a little more power AND want it to be able to spool up so the darn belt runs the full gammon of the sheaves.... |

Re: G-16 need more power with new lift
Measure the belt, new is 1 3/16". Stock wear limit is 1", but a lifted cart will bog at low speeds/climbing at 1" it has to be larger maybe 1 1/16" wide.
I don't know what to tell you, if the spring is too strong it should climb pretty good and lose top end because the primary can't force the secondary open all the way. Some people have had that happen, it may be worse if you still have the governor on. If the belt is close to the top of the secondary and the motor mounts are good and it still does not climb, then either its only 9hp or the engine is not making enough power or possibly the primary is screwed up in a way that makes the rpm too low. Most carts will chug up something fairly steep but they take their time. |

Re: G-16 need more power with new lift
I am going to get a new belt. I tried calling plowmans yesterday and they were closed. They sell a wider than stock belt. My belt measurses 1 1/16". So, I am 1/8" shy which is a good bit. I may go with his whole secondary clutch set up.
As far as your comment on the primary. How do you know if it is working right? Had the cover off and cleaned it all out and it appears fully functional. I should video my little hill today to show you what is going on under load. I do still have the gov on. It is turned down about 80%. |
