97 Ds will not charge?????
I have a 97 club car ds and can only get like 5v to the battery when running 1st insinct was the vr, when i changed it the old 1 had just 2 wires coming out of it, the red to the silonoid and the yellow to the starter, the ground was coming from the frame to teh vr itself grounding the whole vr. The new 1 is a 4 wire as it is the only one made now for the ds models i have the vr wired exactly as the 4 wire diagram shows, but still no charge, i have checked all the grounds seems everything is k does anybody have any suggestions. thanks

Re: 97 Ds will not charge?????
Somewhere here there is a test for the Generator. You ground one lead and the generator puts out full charge. That is the first test ... you'll have to dig around to find it. Use the google search this site feature at the middle blue bar in this page header...

Re: 97 Ds will not charge?????
u dnt think i burned the new one up by originally connecting the grounds for the forward reverse microswitch to it, the bolt on the frame was too big for it and thts where it was on the old 1 so i thought it would be k, but i know the vr is not supposed to be a ground, i fixed it by straight wiring the ground for the ms to the ground on the vr but still no charge.

Re: 97 Ds will not charge?????
Those old VR were just about bullet proof, My guess is the original problem is a generator brush issue on a 97.... ? I think you just ground the green wire on the gen. and that pins the output which you can check at the battery. Should get 14-16 volts at 3000 rpm.
