Sorry for the wrong knowledge of engine words, but doing this blindly, is a learning process

Need to remove the clutch to take the side cover off, to get inside. And yes take it to mesa. Mesa will have a clutch puller to assist in that. I'm gonna guess it ran out of oil and seized the rings in the cylinder or rod bearing on the crank. Hope its the rings, cheaper to fix!

Let us know!

Good luck, Mike

Thanks Mike, yesterday, i was trying to get the fan off by wrench and hammer, well dont know how much damage that did but it freed the ?Piston? everything moves freely, the clutch/fan spin but when it gets to the top, it has like a little hesitation, but will still move up and down, wondering if i should just do a whole top end kit, while i have everything out?? what do you think??? Yeah i was always having to add oil, my friend said the rings were probly bad, that was about a year ago, hopefully, it is just the rings!!!

Did you pull the motor out yet? It is very easy to do and will make things much easier for you to work on especially if you are going to start replacing parts.

Do what 9er said, take out motor. I would take it to a machine shop and let them tell me what needs to be done. I'm gonna guess needs to be bored out, new piston and rings, as well as rod bearing. Could get expensive if it needs crank shaft work. Mesa people will be able to tell you what you need.

Also if you remove the connecting rod, make sure you know which side faces the cam.

If its gonna cost $4 ta 500.00, I would look into a clone motor, to see if that is a route you can go. There is a whole thread on that alternative, never read it so don't know through it is.

Like Mike Mac said above. At the absolute minimum you will at least need to have the cylinder honed before you can install a new piston and rings (standard size) or the rings will not seat properly. Don't be afraid to yank the motor. I can pull one in less than 15 mins, but I have had alot of practice, but even the very first motor I pulled was still under an hour to do.

Takes no time to get the motor out. I was going to rebuild mine but since I could buy a clone for 3-400 why not have twice the power. It goes the same speed roughly but tears up hills like the stock engine could only dream about. You have to fab up mounts and plumb it all in it takes some work for sure. Can't wait to do mine real soon here since I have a welder and all that. The 13hp will rev a little higher, the 16hp clone has more torque for hills that is what I used. They are same engine just the 16 is a stroker with 30cc more or so (420cc). I doubt there is 3hp difference, but it sure has torque its a grin-maker compared to stock. If I had a seized engine I'd go all through it. You can toss rings in if the crank bearings are all good, but it will still have blowby you need to bore it and new oversize piston to make it run like new. Home depot had them for 250 this winter (recoil start), with the CPP adapter if you use stock generator and clutch you are near 300 plus exhaust/etc but last I looked they didn't have them can only find 300 clones right now. The 13 is a little cheaper.

i Appreciate all the help i can get, due to the fact i jhave no idea how everything is spose to work on an engine, taking it to Baskos shop in gilbert, they can hone the engine for around 35 to 40, hopefully they can tell me more, seems like a far price, motor is out, piston is free, moves up and down, hoping its just the rings, gears seem fine but havent taken that apart, dont hear grinding, so thats gotta be a good thing, ill let you know more when they start work on it.

If its worn and they hone and ring it will run but still have lots of blowby unless the bore is fresh now, but is cheapest for sure. If you bore and new piston, it will have full like new compression and last that long but costs more. Also have to at least lap the valves they do get bad in these thats why kits come with new ones.
