Robin 2PG Ring Job Help
If any one can give me a simple break down on how to replace the rings on my engine, it would save me from messing up
I know how to do most of it, i just want to make sure that i dont have to spend the hole day out there doing it |

Re: Robin 2PG Ring Job Help
It's really not that tough of a job - pretty much need to take the head and jug off (6 bolts and 4 nuts), replace the rings, and put the jug and head back on. To get the jug off, you'll need to remove the exhaust and the carb (neither is an overly daunting task).
This being said, the tolerances are extremely tight here (.007" for the piston), and it is easy to twist and damage the rings (been there, done that). The rebuild manual is linked to in the tech forum - here is another link to it to see how much work it is: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/manua...ND_REBUILD.pdf |

Re: Robin 2PG Ring Job Help
Presumably you are doing this because you have actually measured the compression ratio and found it to be unacceptable.
If so, simply replacing the rings will not be a viable solution. The cylinder will tend to wear in a non concentric shape, especially if you have had piston blow by. In addition the new rings must have a roughened surface on the cylinder to enable them to bed in. I think that just replacing the rings will lead to disappointment. Just my $0.02 Dave |
