short belt problem

So to start the problem off right.............I have a 1984 e z go marathon 2pg,22'' tires, 4'' lift etc. I definatly got the buggie bug The problem im having is I picked up a new short belt(dayco hp3004) to help with the lack of get up and go. jammed it on with no real problem but now the cart is realy hard to start. sometimes I even have to push it while turning it over to help get it started. Im wondering if the belt is to tight? Do i have the wrong belt I wonder?

When you have to jam something on it seems its not right.
The belt may be short enough to be sucked down into the secondary
clutch that you are trying to start in a higher ratio.
Anyone else Ideas?

sorry doomsman. when i said i jammed it on i meant put it on. i didnt have to jam anything to get it on.haha.

Sometimes new shorter belts need a few days of driving time to get them to "break in and loosen up just a bit.
My Yamaha actually moves the cart when it starts spinning with no problems.
With that said. It sounds like you need to check your battery condition or cables and make sure your starter is getting all the cranking amps for an easy start up.
Bad/corroded cables or connections will show 12 volts with a meter but will not allow the amps through to quickly turn over and start your engine.
Charge battery and check cables to get engine spinning faster.
might even need brushes in the st/gen?

They need about 15 to 20 hours of good break in. But I would check Battery isssues also It shouldn't need to be pushed to start.
