Snap ring removal
I have a 1999 club car DS. I am trying to replace the brakes. Is there a trick to removing the snap ring from the axle tube so I can remove the axle? I can squeeze it together, but it won't slip off.

Re: Snap ring removal
It is a pain in the $$$....... Just be sure you have great snap ring pliers. I tried using a cheap pair from harbor freight and wasted a couple hours cussing - then went and got a better plier and they came out easily.

Re: Snap ring removal
Ran into the same problem on my 94 ds. You have to have 90 degree bits to get in there. It took longer but the brakes can be done without removing the axle. Have plenty of patience and a few beers won't hurt either.

Re: Snap ring removal
You don't have to remove the snap ring to change the brakes.

I have given up on the snap ring. I will try to just change the brakes. Any trick to doing that?

Quote:
Release both clips with the screwdriver. Remove the brakes. Clean the slider with WD. Lube adjuster with WD40 and run it all the way in. Wipe slider clean with rag. Re-install adjuster. Position TOP spring on shoes and "Hang" them on the axle. Position lower spring and snap shoes into place in the following order..... Front Top, Front Bottom, Rear Top, Rear Bottom. Re-install clips. You're done. |

Re: Snap ring removal
A great thanks to TahoeDawgZ71. Your advice and instructions worked very well! The hardest part was getting the clips back on. There isn't much room there. I guess experience beats manuals every time.
